making butter balms and lotions

/Rhonda teaching

Last Saturday we went to a class at our local green ecomart and learned to make lotion bars.  For Valentines we made them in the shape of hearts.  We added lots of vanilla fragrance and they turned out nice.
Here is the recipe:  1 part beeswax   1 part cocoa butter/shea or mango butter

1 part oil such as almond oil, olive oil, grapeseed oil or others you like.  Melt beeswax and butter seperately.  The more slowly the butter is melted, the less likely it is to be grainy in the final product.  When the butter is melted, mix with the melted beeswax, then pour the oil in slowly.  Heat on low in microwave just till the solid parts are mostly melted, then stir till mixture is smooth and ready to pour into any molds or cupcake foil tins or whatever your using.  Bars should be ready in 30 minutes to an hour.  The least amount of additives the better. use for moisturizing skin, can float a small piece in the tub water and use as a massage bar.  We did a mixture of grapeseed oil and almond oil with the beeswax and cocoa butter.  Great for calloused feet and elbows also.

Billy Bird and Mom brush calves
grooming Cheech and Chong to keep them friendly has become a daily chore. The calves now are about 350 pounds and were starting to not want our company so now I brush them and have created a monster with Cheech. I have discovered he loves apples and carrots. Chong however wont even smell the goodies. Now Cheech stands in front of the front porch moowing at me for his treats. After I give him his treats it is hard to get back to the house and he is very determined to find more in my pockets.
